CENTER VALLEY, Pa.
- A pair of American University field hockey players have been
honored by the Patriot League, as Leah
DiGiandomenico has been selected as the Corvias Offensive
Player of the Week, while Kate McBeath was chosen
as the Corvias Goalkeeper of the Week.
Additionally, McBeath earned
recognition as the GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week.
DiGiandomenico and McBeath helped
lead American to a 1-0 league win over Lafayette in its only game
of the week. DiGiandomenico, a freshman from Elkridge, Md., netted
the lone goal against Lafayette in the 41st minute of action to
give AU the victory. It was her second goal of the season, both of
which were game-winners.
Meanwhile, McBeath earned her
seventh shutout of the season, recording five saves against the
Leopards, who outshot the Eagles 14-5 and were awarded eight
penalty corners. McBeath currently leads the league and ranks in
the top 10 nationally in goals against average (1.13), while AU
leads the nation in shutouts per game.
Also recognized for her performance
this week was senior Grace Wilson, who received
honorable mention from the Patriot League for helping to anchor the
Eagles' defensive unit.
American concludes a five-game road
swing this Wednesday, Oct. 15, with a non-conference game at James
Madison.
