The American University field hockey team rolled to a 7-1
victory over Longwood on Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated at
Jacobs Field.
American (3-1) took an early 1-0 advantage in the ninth minute
of the game. Shelly
Montgomery drove down the right side of the field and
slipped it past the goalkeeper for the lead.
Longwood (1-3) tied it up in the 27th minute, with Nicole
Deckard notching the equalizer off the assist from Meghan O'Connor.
Isabel
Terwindt gave the Eagles back the lead seven minutes
later, collecting the rebound off the initial save by Lauren
Bernard on the penalty corner.
American was awarded a penalty stroke four minutes into the
second half, and Alex
McMackin put it away to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
The advantage sparked the American offense. Natalie
Konerth and Grace
Parke each registered their first collegiate goals
with scores just 47 seconds apart.
McMackin added her second of the day five minutes later on a
penalty corner as Carly
Atchison and Grace
Wilson tallied the assists. The Eagles closed out the
scoring in the 53rd minute with a goal from Atchison on a penalty

Kepper tallied assists on the score.
American outshot Longwood, 26-6, for the game and held a 9-2
advantage in penalty corners.
The Eagles head to College Park, Md. next for the Terrapin
Invitational. American faces Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, September 14
at 1 p.m. and Columbia on Sunday, September 15 at 12 p.m.
