Box Score Grace Wilson scored in the 82nd minute to help the American University field hockey team remain undefeated in Patriot League play with a 1-0 win at No. 20 Boston U. on Saturday afternoon.
Boston (5-3, 1-1) went on the offensive right from the start of the game, earning a penalty corner in the first minute. Sofi Laurito took the shot but it was blocked by the Eagles' defense. American answered with a penalty corner in the fourth minute of play, but Wilson's attempt went wide. The Terriers registered back-to-back shots in the 15th minute with Ashley Dalisera coming up with both stops. The Eagles had another penalty corner with two minutes to go in the half, but Shelly Montgomery's attempt was blocked before reaching the cage.
Boston dominated the second half, registering 17 shots and holding American to just one. Dalisera made nine stops in the half to keep the Terriers off the board. The Eagles' lone opportunity in the second half came in the final minute. Natalie Konerth took the shot and it was stopped by Valentina Cerda.
American (6-3, 2-0) tallied the first opportunity in extra time, but Carly Atchison's attempt was saved by Cerda. Boston answered with a shot by Anne Fruitema a minute later, but Dalisera was there for the save. The two teams battled back and forth before the Eagles were awarded a penalty corner in the 82nd minute. Montgomery's initial shot was blocked but Wilson was there for the rebound to give American the win.
The Terriers held a 22-8 advantage in shots for the game and 12-5 edge in penalty corners. Dalisera recorded 12 saves for the Eagles.
American will look to remain unbeaten in Patriot League play when it heads to Colgate on Saturday, October 5 for a 1 p.m. match-up.
