Swimming & Diving Earns Two Medals on Day Two of Patriot League Championships

The American swimming & diving team added to their point totals on day two of the Patriot League Championships as the men moved up to fifth overall and the women more than doubled their point total. The men also added two bronze medals on day two of the championships.

The Eagle men moved ahead of Colgate, scoring 129 team points while the women added 47 points on day two, almost double the amount they put up on day one.

American was well-represented in the 100 backstroke as Bobby Ballance claimed the bronze medal, finishing third overall in 49.68. Matt Wurm was not far behind, placing fifth with a time of 50.38.

Rookie Dylan Rasnick was impressive in the 400 individual medley, placing third overall with a time of 3:57.20. In the B-finals, Sean Cudahy placed third at 4:04.80 while Kevin Bond finished eighth in 409.98.

The Eagles also had two swimmers in the B-Final of the 100 back with Harrison Volaski taking the top pot in 51.27 and Tyler Pham touching the wall in 52.37 for fifth.

In the men's 100 breaststroke, the Eagles had two swimmers in the B-Final with Charlie Taffetplacing second with a time of 56.84 and Dan Francis finishing eighth at 58.77.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Wurm, Dylan Hall, Rasnick and Ballance placed fifth overall for 28 team points, touching the wall in 6:51.60, more than 10 seconds faster than their seeded time.

Diver Melissa Parker shone on the one-meter board, earning the silver medal with a score of 240.85, less than three points leader.

24 points headed the women's way with a seventh-place finish in the 200 medley relay as the team of Paris Wood, Abby Weingarten, Julia Vonheeringen and Lesia Olesnyckyj finished in 149.69, over four seconds faster than their seeded time.

Wood also advanced to the B-Final of the 100 backstroke, finishing seventh with a time of 58.58. The AU women added another point to their title when Weingarten finished eighth in the B-Final of the 100 breaststroke.
