Box Score Victoria De Kepper registered her first two collegiate goals to help the American University field hockey team overcome Colgate, 3-2, and remain undefeated in Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon.
American (7-3, 3-0) struck first in the fifth minute, with De Kepper scoring off American's first attempt of the day. Natalie Marsh fed a pass in front of the goal and De Kepper was able to send it past goalkeeper Amanda DiDomizio for the 1-0 advantage. The Raiders answered with three consecutive penalty corners, but Ashley Dalisera was able to make the save on the first and the Eagles' defense stepped up on the other two to preserve the advantage. American went back on the offensive, with consecutive shots by Shelly Montgomery and an attempt by Rebecca Treharne on the penalty corner. DiDomizio made the stop on Treharne's shot, but Alex McMackin was there to corral the deflection and put the Eagles up 2-0 in the 14th minute.
Colgate (2-9, 0-3) answered less than a minute later. After Eliana Brown's shot hit the post Olivia Nabhan collected the rebound to cut American's lead to 2-1. American nearly extended its advantage in the 15th minute, but DiDomizio came up with the stop on De Kepper's attempt. The Eagles registered four straight shots, with the Raiders' defense making the stops to remain within one. Colgate was able to knot it up in the 34th minute. Kelsey Jensen tallied an attempt off the penalty corner but Whitney Jones was there for the rebound after Dalisera's initial save to tie it up at 2-all.
American went on the attack in the second half, recording 10 shots and holding the Raiders to just two attempts as it looked for the game-winner. The Eagles posted three straight tries in the 64th minute, but DiDomizio came up with the saves to preserve the tie. American was able to put it away in the 69th minute as De Kepper fired a shot from the top of the circle into the back of the cage for the 3-2 win.
The Eagles held a 23-10 advantage in shots and 9-8 edge in penalty corners in the game. Dalisera posted four saves as the starting goalkeeper.
American will look to extend its unbeaten streak in Patriot League play when it hosts Lafayette on Saturday, October 12 at 11 a.m. The game will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
