American University field hockey student-athlete Grace Wilson was recognized as the
Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time
this season, conference officials announced Monday. The junior was
also honored as the AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by
GEICO by Department of Athletics officials.
Wilson helped the Eagles clinch a Patriot League Tournament bid
on Saturday afternoon as the team posted a 4-0 shutout of
conference rival Lafayette. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native anchored an
American defensive unit that allowed just one shot in the first
half and three penalty corners for the game. She then helped the
Eagles as it kept the top-ranked Terrapins scoreless for 48 minutes
on Sunday, holding Maryland to three goals below its nation-leading
average.
The defender has tallied a career-best 11 points this season,
ranking second on the team with five goals and also adding one
assist.
Wilson and American continue its homestand with a pair of
non-conference games this weekend. The Eagles host Towson on
Friday, October 18 at 3 p.m. before facing No. 4 Connecticut on
Sunday, October 20 at 1 p.m. for its annual “Phil
Jacobs” event.
