Swimming & Diving Swims Quad Meet Against Loyola, George Washington & Catholic

The American University swimming & diving team competed in a quad meet this weekend, swimming at Fraily Pool against Loyola, George Washington and Loyola at the Reeves Aquatic Center. The diving portion of the even took place at Loyola.

"We were very pleased with our teams efforts this weekend. The meet was definitely stronger with the addition of new Patriot League conference member Loyola joining the meet and both George Washington and Catholic certainly came ready to compete," said head coach Mark Davin.

The returners led the way on the boards and in the pool for the Eagles, including new meet record holders. Senior Bobby Ballance won the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 52.19, topping the previous mark of 52.66.

Dylan Rasnick broke his own record in the 1650 freestyle, winning the event with a time of 16:36.19. His previous record in the event was 16:40.01.

Paris Wood helped lead the way for the Eagle women, winning the 200 back at 2:10.09 and added a third-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.42, just .41 seconds behind the leader.

Rookie swimmer Shannon Scovel also added a third-place finish racing to a time of 18:01.84 in the 1650 free.

On the boards, junior Melissa Parker earned the top spot in the three-meter with a score of 227.55 and placed second on the one-meter board, just 2.27 points behind the leader at 232.49.

"This was a much stronger showing than last week and we are looking forward to far better performances as me move forward," said Davin.

American returns to the pool against local area foe Howard on Friday, October 18.
