Box Score

The American University field hockey team scored first in Sunday's contest against James Madison, but the Dukes added a goal with 38 seconds remaining in overtime for the 2-1 victory.

Alex McMackin tallied the first goal of the day off a deflection on an American (0-4) penalty corner six minutes in, with Grace Wilson adding the assist. James Madison (2-2) tied the game in the 31st minute. West passed it off to Rachel Wein on a fast break, who slipped it past Ashley Dalisera for the 1-1 score. The Eagles tried to take an advantage into the half, but Jaclyn Anspach's shot in the 33rd minute was saved by goalkeeper Lena Wimmert.

Neither team scored in the second half, as Gina Hofmann's attempts in the closing minutes were blocked to send the game to overtime.

The Eagles had a penalty corner to open the first overtime period but were unable to convert on the attempt. Shelly Montgomery got a shot off in the 78th minute, but it was stopped inside the circle.

James Madison's Rachel Palumbo had the game-winning goal in the 84th minute when she was able to tip it in with Jenna Taylor registering the assist.
