Box Score The American University field hockey team scored first in
Sunday's contest against James Madison, but the Dukes added a goal
with 38 seconds remaining in overtime for the 2-1 victory.

McMackin tallied the first goal of the day off a
deflection on an American (0-4) penalty corner six minutes in, with
Grace
Wilson adding the assist. The Dukes attempted to
equalize early in the period on back-to-back penalty corners, but
Taylor West's shot on the second was blocked in front of the
cage.
James Madison (2-2) tied the game in the 31st minute. West
passed it off to Rachel Wein on a fast break, who slipped it past
Ashley
Dalisera for the 1-1 score. The Eagles tried to take
an advantage into the half, but Jaclyn
Anspach's shot in the 33rd minute was saved by
goalkeeper Lena Wimmert.
Neither team scored in the second half, as Gina
Hofmann's attempts in the closing minutes were blocked
to send the game to overtime.
The Eagles had a penalty corner to open the first overtime
period but were unable to convert on the attempt. Shelly
Montgomery got a shot off in the 78th minute, but it
was stopped inside the circle.
James Madison's Rachel Palumbo had the game-winning goal in the
84th minute when she was able to tip it in with Jenna Taylor
registering the assist.
The two teams each registered 14 shots in the game, with
American holding an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners. Dalisera had
four saves for the Eagles.
American will resume play next weekend when it heads to the
Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md. The Eagles face
Dartmouth on Saturday, September 8 at 1 p.m. before taking on
Massachusetts Sunday, September 9 at 12 p.m.
