Box Score The American University field hockey team bounced back Sunday afternoon to defeat Central Michigan 2-1 on the final day of the MSU Invitational.
Jaclyn Anspach scored her second goal of the season 56 seconds into the match. The junior dribbled the ball into the circle through several defenders on the right side and was able to slip it past, Chippewa goalkeeper Anastasia Netto.
American (3-5) took a 2-0 lead in the 42nd minute off of its sixth penalty corner of the second half. Shelly Montgomery received a pass from Gina Hofmann to put the ball in the back of the cage.
Montgomery scored her second game-winning goal of the season on a team-high seven shots.
Central Michigan (3-4) was able to score a goal of its own 26 seconds later. Mary Alice Moore fired a shot at Ashley Dalisera, but the rebound came out to Erica Garwood who put the Chippewas within one.
Dalisera, who had three saves, and the Eagles defense, were able to hold on for the 2-1 victory, their third win in four games.
American outshot Central Michigan 14-6 and held an 8-2 advantage for penalty corners.
The Eagles will return to action next week to take on Quinnipiac September 23 at 12 p.m.
