Hofmann Named Defensive Player of the Week, AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO

American University field hockey defender Gina Hofmann was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, conference officials announced Monday. She was also recognized as the American University Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO by Department of Athletics officials.

The Braunschweig, Germany native helped the Eagles to a 1-1 weekend, including a 9-2 victory over Lehigh where she tallied a second half goal and a team-high three assists in the team's first conference win. She also registered a defensive save for American in the game.

The senior had a defensive impact in Sunday's 2-0 loss to No. 4 Princeton, helping to limit the Tiger's scoring opportunities throughout the game. She helped to anchor American's defense as it held Princeton to two goals on 22 shot attempts, an offense that had averaged 4.70 goals per game coming into the contest.

Hofmann is ranked third in the Patriot League and leads American with eight assists on the year.

Hofmann and the Eagles return to Jacobs Field this weekend for a pair of matches, including a Patriot League contest against Holy Cross on Saturday, October 13 at 11 a.m. The Eagles then host Towson on Sunday, October 14 at 1 p.m.
