The American University men's and women's swimming and diving teams both recorded victories against Howard on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles broke nine dual meet records and posted wins in 23 of 32 events. The men earned a 175-76 triumph while American recorded a 159-84 victory in the women's competition.
Dylan Rasnick set two dual meet records in the 200 breast and 200 fly. He won the 200 breast in 2:14.86, just beating out teammate Mike Allada at the finish who posted a time of 2:14.87. Rasnick also set the 200 fly record with a time of 2:00.15. Both records had been set in 2009. He also won the 200 IM, finishing in 1:59.78, and besting his nearest competitor by nearly three seconds.
Matt Wurm broke the meet record in the 200 back, posting a time of 1:53.39, and also won the 100 back in 51.63. He was also a member of two victorious relay teams. Bobby Ballance, Wurm, Allada and Dylan Hall won the 200 free relay in 1:29.01 while the team of Ballance, Daniel Francis, Tyler Pham and Wurm beat out the field in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.17. Pham also broke a seven-year old meet record in the 100 fly, winning the event in 52.66.
Julia Von Heeringen led the women's team, besting a meet record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:18.01. She also posted a victory in the 100 back by nearly two seconds, registering a time of 1:03.46. Kerri Knippenberg registered a pair of victories in the 1000 free (11:11.66) and 200 back (2:21.90).
In the diving competition, Melissa Parker won both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions and replaced records set in 2010. She posted a score of 232.30 in the one-meter event with a final mark of 237.85 in the three-meter dive. Kegan Gerard set a new meet record in the three-meter dive, with a final score of 163.25. He also won the one-meter event, posting a score of 203.55.
The Eagles resume competition next Saturday, November 3 when they travel to Easton, Pa. for a quad-meet against Patriot League opponents Lafayette, Bucknell and Navy.
