The American University field hockey team tallied its third consecutive win with a 4-1 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon.

Kati Rothenhoefer put American (8-8, 3-1) on the board a minute and a half into the match, lifting the ball over the stick of a Colgate defender and slipping it past Amanda DiDomizio for the 1-0 advantage. Shelly Montgomery gave the Eagles the 2-0 lead two minutes later. Alex McMackin fed her the ball and Montgomery was able to get past a defender and send the ball into the near post.

Eliana Brown registered Colgate's (3-12, 1-3) first two tries of the half, with both attempts going wide of the net. Lauren Dittman pressured Ashley Dalisera with a shot on a penalty corner in the 21st minute, but the junior netminder tallied her first save of the day. The Eagles recorded five consecutive shots near the end of the first half, however they were unable to convert as DiDomizio and the Colgate defense was able to keep the score at 2-0.

The Raiders notched a penalty corner two minutes out of the break. Dalisera tallied the save on the first shot. Colgate regained possession and was able to cut American's lead to 2-1 on a breakaway goal by Halle Biggar.

The Eagles took back its two-goal advantage in the 53rd minute with a goal by Jaclyn Anspach as McMackin registered her second assist of the day. Montgomery tallied her second of the day and closed out the scoring for American in the 68th minute. DiDomizio made the save on the junior's first attempt, but Montgomery was there for the rebound and put it into the cage for the 4-1 win.

American held a 19-17 advantage in shots and a 13-12 edge in shots on goal. Dalisera recorded 11 saves starting in goal for the Eagles.

American is back in action on Monday, October 22 when it faces the defending National Champion No. 6 Maryland at 7 p.m.
