The American University swimming and diving team hosted a
tri-meet against local rivals George Washington and Catholic, where
the Eagles took home nine individual titles and broke three meet
records.
Bobby Ballance led American with three
victories, opening the meet in the 200 IM and leading the Eagles as
they took the top-five spots. Ballance broke the meet record with a
time of 1:56.98 and was followed by Dylan Rasnick (1:58.92), Harrison Volaski (2:01.20), Sean Cudahy (2:01.53) and Ross
Honig (2:03.04). He also won the 100 fly, posting a
time of 52.56, and broke the meet record in the 100 back with a
time of 51.86, nearly two seconds faster than the second-place
finisher.
Matt Wurm recorded two victories for
American and opened the event by breaking the meet record in the
500 free by nearly five seconds, posting a time of 4:39.59, and
outlasting the field by more than seven seconds. He also took home
the title in the 200 back, completing the race in 1:53.58, three
seconds ahead of his next-closest competitor.
Charlie Taffet also took home two
individual titles, winning the 100 and 200 breast. He registered a
time of 1:00.39 in the 100 breast and edged the field in the 200
with a time of 2:12.31. Rasnick earned his first collegiate
victory, winning the 1650 free by over 35 seconds, posting a time
of 16:40.02.
On the women's side, Grace Ibrahim won the 200 fly in
2:20.79, outlasting her nearest competitor by nearly two seconds.
Julia Von Heeringen recorded a trio of
runner-up finishes in the 100 fly (1:01.56), 100 back (1:05.02) and
200 back (2:17.16).
In addition to the competition in the pool, Saturday's final
session marked Senior Day for American's two swimming and diving
student-athletes, Andrew Jackwin and Kylie Smith. Each senior was honored
in a pre-session ceremony on the Reeves Aquatic Center pool
deck.
American will be back in action on Saturday, October 27 when it
hosts Howard at 2 p.m. in the annual Bender Splashdown event.
