American University Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith
Gill has announced that Laura Campbell has stepped down as
head women's lacrosse coach and named Emma Wallace as interim head
coach.
Campbell leaves after two seasons with an overall record of
16-18, including a 6-6 mark in Patriot League play. Campbell
graduated from American University in 2003, where she was a
four-year starter on the lacrosse team. During her time as a
player, Campbell helped the Eagles win their first Patriot League
Championship in 2003, propelling American to its first NCAA
Tournament appearance.
"Laura has played an important role, both as a student-athlete
and as head coach of our lacrosse program at AU," commented
Gill. "We appreciate her dedication to the program and wish
her the very best."
Assistant Coach Emma Wallace will lead the team this season.
Wallace served as an assistant coach at the University of
California - Berkeley from September 2011 to June 2012 and was
responsible for development of the midfield. She was also the head
coach of the BearLax Lacrosse Club in Berkeley, California. Before
joining the California-Berkeley staff, Wallace was the varsity head
coach at the Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in
Washington, D.C. She also served as the varsity head coach at the
Highland School in Warrenton, Virginia, and the Upper Corner
Lacrosse Club in northern Virginia. Wallace played defense for the
Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team and was a member of three NCAA
tournament squads. She graduated with a degree in political science
in 2007.
