The American University men's basketball team remained a perfect
9-0 in Bender Arena with a 67-55 victory over the Army Black
Knights on Phil Bender Day 2012.

Brewer led the Eagles with 22 points and went 6-of-8
from three-point range while Tony
Wroblicky also scored in double-digits with a
career-high 12 points. Wroblicky went 5-of-7 from the floor and
also posted a team-high nine rebounds. Daniel
Munoz tallied six assists and two steals in the
game.
"It was really a hard-fought win," said Head Coach Jeff Jones. "That game was decided on
the defensive end of the floor... I think we did a terrific job
defensively."
The game was tied early before back-to-back jumpers from
Blake
Jolivette and Munoz put American (13-7, 4-1) up 9-5
with 9:26 to play. A Julian Simmons three cut it to a one-point
game but the Eagles went on an 8-0 run started by a Wroblicky
three-point play for the 20-10 lead with 3:06 remaining in the
first half.
A jumper from Milton Washington stopped American's run, but the
Eagles outscored Army (9-11, 2-3) 6-2 in the closing minutes of the
first half for the 26-14 lead heading into the break.
Jolivette led the Eagles with eight points in the first half
while the team shot 41.7 percent from the floor and went a perfect
5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Wroblicky had a team-high six
boards in the first. Ella Ellis led the Black Knight with five
first half points as Army shot 18.5 percent from the field and hit
only one three in the first.
Brewer opened the half with a deep three for the Eagles.
Wroblicky added a three-point play after a dish from Munoz for the
34-18 lead. American started to gain momentum as Munoz added a
steal on the other end and passed it to Brewer for the easy lay-up.
The Eagles continued to dominate both sides of the floor as

Grafft added a block then Munoz hit a three off a
Grafft offensive rebound for the 41-25 lead at 12:14, forcing Army
to call a timeout.
The Black Knights came out of the break with a Josh Herbeck
three but Munoz answered with one of his own, 44-28. The Eagles
went on a 14-2 run and back-to-back three's from Brewer caused Army
to take another timeout as American went up 64-40 with 3:49 to
play. Army hit five three's in the closing minutes of the second
half and went on a 15-3 run, but it wasn't enough as American held
on for the 67-55 win.
The Eagles shot 47.2 percent from the field and 50.0 perfect
from three-point range. The team also went 8-of-10 from the foul
line. American outrebounded Army by a 37-29 margin in the game and
improved to a perfect 13-0 against Army when playing at home.
Army was held to a 35.3 percent field goal percentage and went
11-of-24 from beyond the arc, hitting 10 three's in the second
half. The Black Knight also shot 61.5 percent from the foul line.
Simmons had a team-high 18 points for Army and shot 6-of-10 from
three-point range. Washington led the Black Knights on the
defensive end with seven rebounds.
The Eagles will open a three-game road trip on Wednesday,
January 25 when they travel to Bucknell to take on the undefeated
Bison at 7 p.m. American will return to Bender Arena on February 9
when they host Lehigh at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available for the
