Box Score The No. 8 American University field hockey team will play a pair of games this weekend when it takes on Ohio and Northwestern at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md. The Eagles will first take on Ohio at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10 before tangling with Northwestern on Sunday, September 11 at 12:00 p.m.
American enjoyed a perfect home opening weekend to improve to 2-1, defeating Penn, 7-0, and then-No. 7 Princeton, 2-0. The Eagles were rewarded for their play by moving up two positions in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll to the eighth spot, and earned a clean sweep of the Patriot League awards. Alex McMackin, Tatum Dyer, Stephanie Burry and Grace Wilson were each recognized by the conference, receiving Offensive, Defensive, Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week honors.
Jenn Bradley and McMackin have both scored two goals with one assist for a team-leading five points. Gina Hofmann has added two goals while a total of seven different Eagles have scored at least once. Dyer and Natalie Ellenberger have each tallied two assists.
Burry has seen the bulk of the action in the cage for American and last weekend recorded the first wins and shutouts of her career. She will carry a 2-1 record and a 1.50 gaa into this weekend's contests.
Ohio has gotten off to a perfect 5-0 start this season, the team's best since 1995, scoring 19 goals against just three from its opponents. Taylor Brown leads the team with four goals while Cathryn Altdoerffer, Brooke Edwards and Jessica Jue have tallied three apiece. Jenn McGill has recorded all five wins in the cage and owns a 0.78 gaa and .850 save percentage.
Northwestern will bring a 3-1 mark into this weekend's tournament after falling to then-No. 17 Albany 2-1 on Sunday in the final minute of play. Chelsea Armstrong has scored six goals and two assists for a team-best 14 points, and has notched three game-winning scores. Regan Mooney and Nikki Parsley have each scored twice while Claire Thompson has added one goal. Maddy Carpenter is 2-1 for the Wildcats and sports a 1.29 gaa with an .842 save percentage.
