Box Score The No. 10 American University field hockey team opened its 2011 season Sunday against No. 12 Old Dominion, falling 4-1 to the Monarchs in Charlottesville, Va.

"We were not able to sustain the level of play we would have liked for the entire game. This is a disappointing loss but we can learn a lot from the relentlessness ODU showed as we prepare for next week."
Jenn Bradley scored American's (0-1) lone goal in the 54th minute, beating Old Dominion (2-0) goalkeeper Deven Seifert to the right. Gina Hofmann led the Eagles with four shots in the contest while Bradley, Shelly Montgomery and Kati Rothenhoefer each tallied one.
