The American University men's basketball team will play a second straight game on national television with it takes on Lehigh Sunday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa. live on CBS College Sports.
The Eagles defeated Lafayette 73-60 last Saturday on CBS College Sports in front of 2,989 fans who came out to celebrate Phil Bender 2011. American was led by Stephen Lumpkins' 21-point, nine rebound performance as Vlad Moldoveanu chipped in 17 points and Troy Brewer 13. Lumpkins finished the game shooting 8-of-9 from the field and matched his career-high with four blocks. Nick Hendra added a career-best seven assists against just one turnover.
American was strong down low against the Leopards, holding a 35-26 advantage on the glass and a 28-14 margin in points in the paint. The Eagles also shot a season-high 53.3 percent from three in the win, connecting on 8-of-15 attempts.
Moldoveanu enters the week ranked 20th in the NCAA in scoring with an average of 20.3 ppg. He has led the Eagles in scoring 14 times this season and has been named the Patriot League Player of the Week on four occasions. Lumpkins, meanwhile, has been named the conference's Player of the Week once and currntly leads the Patriot League with 7.9 rpg and a 57.7 percent shooting percentage.
Lehigh will carry a 12-10 overall record into Sunday's contest and is mixed into a five-way tie for third place in the conference standings at 3-4. C.J. McCollum ranks first in the Patriot League with 22.1 ppg and is second in the conference with 7.8 rpg. Gabe Knutson adds 12.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg to the Mountain Hawk lineup while Mackey McKnight has dished out 4.0 apg.
