The American University track and field teams competed this week at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
The women's team competed on Thursday with Carly Birkhold picking up a second place finish in the 3000 meter run in a time of 10:37.85.
Ali Tyburski led of trio of Eagles' runners in the 800 meter run as she recorded a fifth place finish (2:21.07), good for fifth all-time at American, while Julia Sullivan (2:23.60) and Sarah Eyman (2:31.60) finished seventh and 15th, respectively. Sullivan's time is tied for sixth all-time. In the mile, Leah Gellineau led the American runners, finishing sixth (5:24.81) as Jenna Rieling (5:39.31) and Rachael Wolff (3:39.59) placed 12th and 13th, respectively.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Alexa Bolden, Olivia Pennock, Charlotte Staver and Hannah Sedgwick also recorded a top-10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 4:17.09. Their time breaks the all-time indoor record at American in the event, which had previously been set in 2001.
The men's team took to the track in Annapolis on Saturday. The distance medley team of Mark Allen, James Manning, CJ Horvath and Josh Olsen recorded a third place finish in a time of 9:50.00 to lead the Eagles. The time is also good for fifth all-time at American.
Ryan Williams recorded a sixth place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:32.32. Mark Leininger placed 11th in the event (8:46.53) as Ian Lutz finished 13th (8:49.67). John Pope (4:24.49) and Tom Woermer (4:28.02) finished eighth and ninth in the mile run for American.
The women's team finished sixth in the team standings while Navy walked away with the team title. The men's meet was a non-scored event.
Both teams will return to action on January 6 when they travel to Delaware.
