Three Eagles scored in the double digits as the American University men's basketball team came back to defeat Columbia, 66-58, for their second straight win on Saturday night.

Charles Hinkle led all scorers with 21 points and had a team-high seven rebounds, shooting 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Daniel Munoz recorded 14 points for the Eagles, with a team-best five assists, as Troy Brewer added 13 points with three steals. American shot 48.0 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from three-point range for the game.

Columbia got on the board first with a basket from Brian Barbour, but Hinkle was able to answer with a three. Brewer got an easy lay-up after a steal at half court to put the Eagles up 5-2 at 17:31. The Lions were able to answer each of American's next buckets, but Riley Grafft and a John Schoof three gave the Eagles the 12-7 advantage. Brewer added two more and a free throw before Columbia came back on a 9-0 run to take the 16-15 lead with 8:35 left in the first.

Columbia was able to score three straight, 22-18, but Brewer, Hinkle and Munoz were all able to score to tie the game at 24 with 36.4 seconds to play. After a Mark Cisco bucket, Brewer added his own at the buzzer to tie it, 26-26.

Brewer led the Eagles with nine points in the first half as the team shot 39.3 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range. Grafft had four boards and five points, as Hinkle also added five for American. Barbour led all scorers with 12 points in the first half as the Lions shot 50.0 percent from the field. Cisco had six rebounds for Columbia.

Blaise Staab hit a three for Columbia to open the half, but Hinkle answered with one of his own. The Lions took a 33-30 lead at 17:19, before Brewer and Grafft were able to put the Eagles up one, 34-33, with 15:24 remaining.

The Lions were able to take the lead off of two Chris Crockett three's, 46-43, with 8:57 on the clock. Cisco added a jumper before a Brewer lay-up brought the Eagles within two, 48-46. Hinkle hit two-of-three free throws after being fouled on a three to tie the game once again at 48 with 7:28 remaining.

Cisco was able to hit two straight jumpers to put the Lions up 52-48 with 6:13 left. But Hinkle answered with a deep three to take the lead back to one, 52-51. Jolivette tied the game off a lay-up, 53-53, and the Eagles took the lead as Hinkle made a pair of free throws, 55-53, with 4:02 remaining.

Munoz continued the Eagles' run, hitting two straight shots to give American the 59-53 advantage with 2:37 to play. Meiko Lyles hit a three for the Lions with 13.4 remaining, 65-58. But American would hold on for the 66-58 victory.

Columbia shot 47.9 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Lions held the 30-26 advantage in rebounds and 12-10 advantage in steals. The Eagles recorded only eight turnovers on the day, with Columbia posting 15.
