Box Score Tatum Dyer registered two goals and an assist to lead the American University field hockey team to a 4-0 win at Holy Cross Saturday morning in Worcester, Mass. The triumph marked the Eagles' fourth-straight victory as they begin Patriot League play with a 2-0 record.
American (6-5, 2-0 PL) took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on Jaclyn Anspach's third tally of the season. The assist was credited to Jenn Bradley as Anspach's shot beat Holy Cross goalkeeper Kelly Sotsky to her left.
The Eagles stretched their advantage to 2-0 less than 10 minutes later on Dyer's first goal of the day, which came off a penalty corner. Shelly Montgomery fed the pass to Dyer for the score. Then in the 28th minute, AU made it 3-0 when Canon Hirschler tipped home a Dyer pass. Five minute after, the Eagles recorded their fourth score -- Dyer's second of the day -- with Courtney MacPherson earning the assist.
American outshot Holy Cross (1-11, 0-2 PL) by a 23-7 margin, which included a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Eagles fired 16 shots in the first half compared to only three for the Cruasaders.
Dyer's five-point effort sets a new-career high for the senior. She came into Saturday with only one career score, which came last Sunday in AU's victory over Temple.
The Eagles will return home for a pair of games next weekend. AU will first host Colgate on Saturday, October 15 at 12 p.m. before taking on defending national champion Maryland on Sunday, September 16 at 2 p.m. Both games will be available on Eagles Vision TV.
