American University field hockey senior Tatum Dyer has earned Patriot League
Defensive Player of the Week honors for a second straight week and
third time this season, conference officials announced Monday. Dyer
has also been selected as the AU Student-Athlete of the Week
presented by GEICO for her performance over the last week.
Dyer, a defender from Windham, N.H., made her mark on the
offensive end in AU's two contests this week, registering
eight total points on three goals and two assists. She matched her
career-high with two goals and set a new personal-best with two
assists in Saturday's 8-1 victory over Colgate. Then on
Sunday against No. 3 Maryland, Dyer scored again although the
Eagles came up short against the defending national champions. For
the week, Dyer was a perfect three-for-three on penalty
strokes.
Dyer has now registered 15 points over the last four games after
only recording three points during the first nine games this
season. This includes six scores over the recent four-game span
after zero career goals up until that point, which spanned 73
starts as an Eagle. For the season, Dyer leads AU with 18 points on
six goals and six assists.
In addition to her recent offensive explosion, Dyer is
instrumental in anchoring AU's defense, which allowed only
five total shots in the victory over Colgate. On Sunday against
Maryland, Dyer helped hold the Terps to one goal in the first half
before they pulled away over the final 35 minutes.
This Patriot League nod is Dyer's third of the season and
sixth of her career. She was also honored on September 6 this year
as well as last week.
Dyer and the Eagles will take on Bucknell this Saturday, October
22 in Lewisburg, Pa., before returning home on Sunday, Sunday 23
for a clash against Georgetown. The contest against the Hoyas will
be AU's Senior Day as Dyer and her two classmates -- Melissa Casale and Natalie Ellenberger -- will be honored
in a pre-game ceremony. All the action Sunday will be carried live
on Eagles
Vision TV.
