The American University men's basketball team will welcome Lafayette to Bender Arena Saturday, January 26 at 4:00 p.m. for Phil Bender 2011 live on CBS College Sports.
The second-place Eagles will be looking to bounce back against Lafayette after suffering a 72-53 loss at Navy Wednesday. American was led by Vlad Moldoveanu's 14 point, 12 rebound performance, as he recorded his third double-double of the year. Navy held a hot hand from the outside, however, and made 11 three-pointers en route to the victory.
Moldoveanu entered the week ranked 13th in the NCAA in scoring and will carry a 20.5 ppg average into Wednesday's contest. The senior is also the team's second-leading rebounder at 6.4 rpg and has made a team-best 42 three's this year. Stephen Lumpkins is averaging 12.4 ppg and leads the Patriot League with 7.8 rpg, while Troy Brewer has added 10.6 ppg and 40 three-pointers.
All American students in attendance Saturday will receive free food and drink courtesy of Domino's Pizza, Coca-Cola, Robeks Smoothies and Bon Appetit as part of the Phil Bender 2011 festivities. RHA will also provide students with facepainting and sign making stations, and all fans are encouraged to "Wear Blue" for the national television audience.
Lafayette owns an 8-13 overall record and is currently in fourth place of the Patriot League standings with a 3-3 mark after winning at Army Wednesday, 83-60. The Leopards were led by Jared Mintz's 20 points and a career-high 18 from Nick Petkovich. Mintz has averaged a team-best 16.1 ppg and 5.7 rpg this year with Jim Mower chipping in 12.0 ppg and Ryan Willen 10.5 ppg.
