The No. 20 American University field hockey team will play a
pair of matches this weekend at the Terrapin Invitational in
College Park, Md. The Eagles will take on Rutgers at 1 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 11, and then return to the turf against New
Hampshire at 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.
In its last time out, American (1-2) fell to No. 11 Louisville
on Sunday by a score of 2-1. Lotte
van de Mierop, the reigning Patriot League Rookie of
the Week, scored the Eagles' lone goal in the 13th minute. American
dominated the stat sheet but was unable to rebound after the
Cardinals scored the game winning goal early in the second
half.
Junior Tatum
Dyer was recognized for her play against Louisville by
being named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. She led an
American defensive unit that that held the Cardinals, a team which
had averaged 5.0 goals, 21.3 shots and 9.0 corners per game coming
into the match, to only one shot and zero corners in the second
half.
The Eagles are led by senior Anne van
Erp, who has recorded three goals on three shots this
season. Christine

Casale, Gina
Hofmann and Mierop have each tallied goals so far,
while goalkeeper Hannah
Weitzman holds a 1.33 gaa.
In their first match of the weekend, the Eagles will take on
Rutgers (1-3) Saturday. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a
difficult 3-2 loss against Richmond this past weekend, and have
also fallen to James Madison and William & Mary on the season.
Their lone win was a 1-0 victory over Ohio on Sept. 3.
The Knights are led by reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the
Week Christine Morad, who has recorded one goal on five shots this
season. Sophomore Carlie Rouh and senior Jenna Bull have also found
the score sheet in the first four games. The Knights are led in
goal by sophomore Vickie Lavell, who carries a 3.38 gaa into
Saturday's game.
American will also face New Hampshire (4-0) on Sunday. With a
4-1 win against Providence on Sunday, the Wildcats were listed as
receiving votes in this week's Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National
Coaches Poll. They have also recorded wins against Lock Haven,
Delaware and Bryant on the young season.
New Hampshire is led by senior captain Kara Connolly, who has
recorded a point in each of the Wildcats' games so far. She leads
the team in goals (4), points (10) and shooting percentage (.571),
while also ranking third with two assists. Six different Wildcats
have scored on the season and eight have recorded at least one
point. In goal, Katherine Nagengast owns a 0.76 gaa and .842 save
percentage.
Due to a Maryland football game Saturday evening, fans are asked
to park in lot 4i directly next to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse
Complex. Parking will be free before noon, but $15 after that time.
Sunday's parking will be free of charge and entry to all matches
will also be free.
