#15 Field Hockey Meets #13 Louisville on Sunday

The No. 15 American University field hockey team will return to the turf on Sunday, September 5, against No. 13 Louisville at 11:30 a.m. in Harrisonburg, Va., on the campus of James Madison University.

The Eagles (1-1) are coming off a 2-1 loss to No. 16 Old Dominion last Sunday. American conceded two first half goals to the Monarchs and despite a late goal by Christine Fingerhuth, could not complete the comeback. The Eagles opened their season on Friday with a 5-1 win over Richmond, scoring four goals over the final 15 minutes en route to the victory.

Both Anne van Erp and Gina Hofmann were honored by the Patriot League on Monday, being named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Van Erp earned the award after recording her first career hat trick against the Spiders. Hofmann, meanwhile, tallied four points against Richmond while helping American's defensive unit allow only two field goals on the weekend.

Fingerhuth and Melissa Casale also notched goals over the weekend while six different Eagles were credited with assists. Hannah Weitzman will carry a 1.00 gaa and a 1-1 record into the weekend.

Louisville (1-1) will enter play coming off a 9-0 win over Central Michigan last Sunday. The Cardinals opened their season on Friday, falling to Duke 3-2 in overtime. Senior Nicole Youman scored five goals in the team's victory against the Chippewas and was named BIG EAST Field Hockey Player of the Week. Amber Thomas has scored three goals this season for the Cardinals while goalkeeper Erin Conrad sports a 1.32 gaa.
