The American University men's and women's tracks teams will
compete in the 2010 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field
Championships on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1, looking to
capture several individual titles in the middle and long distance
events.
The Eagles will open the meet with the 4x800 meter relays on
Friday and will later return to the track in the 10,000 meter run.
Senior Rachel Forcino is expected to
be amongst the favorites in the women's race after placing
3rd in this event at last year's championship
meet. She will be joined on the line by fellow senior and
Patriot League Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year Greta Wicklund as well as sophomore Octavia Rinehardt. The
men's team will be paced by junior Colin Eustis, who also placed
3rd in this event at the 2009 Patriot League
Championships, as well as senior Garret Martucci, sophomores Josh Olsen and Ryan Williams, and freshman Mark Leininger.
The action will continue on Saturday starting with the 1,500
meter run. Senior Erin Koch will be vying for her
second-career conference title as she enters the race ranked sixth
in the conference in the event. Meanwhile, the men's team
will be paced by juniors and Jeff Brannigan, Conor Sullivan, and sophomore Craig Brown, who all are ranked in the
top 10 in the event.
Koch will return to the track about an hour after the 1,500 to
compete in the 800 meter run, where she is currently ranked fourth
in the conference. She will be joined by freshman Tina Thomas. For the men's team,
Sullivan will be running in his third and final event of the
weekend and will be joined by freshman Josh Einbinder.
The teams will close out competition Saturday afternoon with the
5,000 meter run. On the women's side, Rinehardt will look to
defend her Patriot League title from last year in the event and
will be joined by seniors Forcino and Wicklund. The men will
rely on Eustis to lead the way as he looks to improve upon his
second place showing at the indoor championships in the
event. Eustis will be flanked by fellow Patriot League indoor
scorers Olsen and Williams, as well as by Martucci, Leininger, and
freshman Mark Allen.
