The American University men's basketball team will square off
with top-seeded Lehigh this Sunday, March 7, in the Patriot League
Tournament Semifinals live on CBS College Sports. Tipoff from
Stabler Arena is set for 8:00 p.m. The fourth-seeded Eagles will be
playing in the semi's for a ninth consecutive year and will be
looking to earn their third straight trip to the conference
championship game. Lehigh, however, swept the regular season series
with American and is in search of its first Patriot League
Championship Game appearance since 2004.
American improved to 9-0 all-time in the Patriot League Tournament
Quarterfinals with a 62-60 win over fifth-seeded Navy Wednesday
night in Bender Arena. Sophomore Stephen
Lumpkins powered the Eagles to the victory with his
eighth double-double of the year and third in as many games.
Lumpkins scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting and
matched his career-best of 15 rebounds. His play helped the team to
a 30-12 scoring advantage in the post and a 41-28 margin on the
glass.
American will enter Sunday's game having won each of its last
three games, matching the team's longest winning streak of the
year. During this stretch the Eagles are averaging 73.3 ppg while
holding opponents to 65.7 ppg. They have outrebouned the opposition
by an average of 7.3 rpg and are outshooting them 47.4 percent to
37.7 percent. Lumpkins has played a key role in the team's success
during the winning streak, averaging 24.7 ppg, 12.7 rpg and
shooting 72.5 percent from the field in the last three games.
The winner of Sunday's game will advance to the Patriot League
Championship Game where it will meet the winner of the other
semifinal game between #3 Lafayette and #7 Holy Cross. This year's
championship game will be played on Friday, March 12, at 4:45 p.m.

Sunday's game between American and Lehigh will be broadcast live
nationally on CBS College Sports. Bob Socci will be on the call
providing play-by-play analysis and will joined by best-selling
author and The Washington Post columnist John Feinstein.
