The American University women's lacrosse team fell by a final of
16-7 at #16 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.

Speziale led the Eagles with two goals apiece in the
defeat.
American (0-2) got off to a tough start as Ohio State (1-1)
scored the first four goals before Amanda
Makoid got the Eagles on the board on a free position
shot to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Buckeyes, however, converted
the next six goals in the half to take a 10-1 lead at halftime.
Ohio State opened the second half with the first two goals to
extend its lead to 12-1, although American continued to fight hard
and outscored the Buckeyes 6-4 in the remainder of the game. Schaaf
registered AU's next two goals, the latter of which occurred with
17:33 to play. Facing a 15-3 deficit, AU scored four of the game's
last five goals with Speziale registering her first two career
goals during the stretch. Bernandette

Collins also recorded late goals for American.
The Buckeyes' Kelly Haggerty and Alayna Markwordt each scored a
game-high four goals in the win.
The Eagles will continue their four-game season-opening road
swing at local rival George Washington on Wednesday, February 24.
