The American University men's and women's track teams will head
to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., this weekend for
the 2010 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Several athletes are poised to contend for titles on both squads as
the teams look to improve upon their performances from last season.
The men's team will look to flex its muscle in the middle
distance and distance events, starting on Saturday afternoon when
the trio of Colin
Eustis, Josh
Olsen, and Ryan
Williams compete in the 5,000 meter run. The
three competitors are ranked seventh through ninth in the
conference in the competition.
Also competing for the men's team on Saturday will be the men's
4x800 meter relay team of Dan
King, Morgan
Block, James
Cannon, and Conor
Sullivan. The team will look to improve upon its
fourth-place finish in the event at the 2009 indoor championships
and second-place finish at the 2009 outdoor championship meet.
Competition continues on Sunday with the mile run where Jeff
Brannigan leads a trio of Eagles into action.
Brannigan, who ran a season and personal-best time of 4:10.88 at
the George Mason Patriot Games on January 30, is ranked third in
the Patriot League. He will be joined by Sullivan and Craig
Brown who are ranked fifth and seventh in the
conference, respectively.
Sullivan will return to the track for his third event of the
weekend as the top overall seed in the men's 1,000 meter. He will
be joined on the starting line by Chris
Tonn who is seeded seventh in the event.
The men's team closes out individual competition in the 3,000
meter run where Eustis and Brannigan hold the top two times in the
conference this season. The Eagles finish up the weekend with
the distance medley relay and 4x400 relay.
The women's team will also bring several highly-ranked
competitors into this year's championship meet. On Saturday,
Rachel
Forcino will compete in the 5,000 meter run as the top
seed in the conference after running a personal-best 17:30.44 at
the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on February 5. In
addition, the women's team of Tina

Hekker, Erin

On Sunday, Koch will take to the track again in the 1,000 meter
run where she is currently ranked second in the conference.
She ran 2:57.76 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational which
set a new personal-best for her in the event by almost three
seconds.
Later in the day, it will be Forcino's turn to take the track
again, this time competing in the 3,000 meter run. She is ranked
fourth in the Patriot League with a time of 10:12.97 which she ran
at the George Mason Patriot Games.
