The American University women's indoor track and field team opened competition Wednesday at the Navy Lid-Lifter Meet in Annapolis, Md,
Erin Koch won her first race of the season with a time of 2:14.56 in the 800 meter run. She was joined by Julia Sullivan who placed ninth in 2:29.99.
Octavia Rinehardt also turned in a strong opening performance, taking second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:06.25. Ali Tyburski placed fifth in the event in 5:13.17 while Carly Birkhold (5:16.70) and Rachel Wolff (5:28.38) took eighth and 10th, respective.
Three Eagles competed in the 3000 meter run led by Leah Haake's (10:48.02) seventh-place finish. Also entered in the race were ninth-place finisher Melissa Tabas (10:54.76) and 10th-place finisher Kelsey Evans (11:01.30).
American's 4x400 meter team of Koch, Tina Thomas, Tyburski and Julia Sullivan finished in a time of 4:12.95, good for sixth place. Ali Swietek rounded out the competition for the Eagles, placing ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.50 meter and taking 15th in the long jump with a distance of 4.25 meters.
American finished 0-4 in the dual meet scoring, with Navy, Towson, Morgan State and Mount St. Mary's also represented at the meet.
The women's indoor track and field team will return to action on Friday, January 7 at the Delaware Open. The men's team, meanwhile, will make its debut on Saturday, December 4 at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
