The American University men's basketball team will play eight games away from Bender Arena in December beginning with a trip to West Virginia Wednesday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles are 1-3 all-time against the Mountaineers, whom they last faced in 2000.

American is off to its best start ever under Head Coach Jeff Jones and will enter play Wednesday with a 5-1 record. The Eagles began the year 5-0 for the first time since 1985-86, picking up wins over four teams which defeated them a year ago. American currently ranks 25th in the NCAA in scoring defense, allowing opponents to net just 57.3 ppg, and is 18th in field-goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 36.3 percent.

Senior Vlad Moldoveanu has led the Eagles in scoring in four of six games this season and will enter play Sunday ranked 20th in the NCAA with 21.8 ppg. Moldoveanu scored 21 points in American's win at Howard last week, marking the fourth time this year he has scored at least 20 points in a game.

Junior Troy Brewer is coming off a strong week in which he scored 18 points against Columbia and posted his first double-double with a career-high 24 points and 12 rebounds at Howard. Brewer is eighth in the Patriot League in scoring with 13.8 ppg and ranks 12th in the conference with 5.0 rpg. Classmate Stephen Lumpkins, meanwhile, posted his second double-double of the year with 20 points and 12 boards against Columbia. Lumpkins is currently leading the Patriot League with 9.3 rpg and ranks seventh in scoring at 14.5 ppg.

West Virginia is 4-1 on the year and listed as receiving votes in both the AP Top 25 and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers are led by Casey Mitchell's 21.4 ppg while Kevin Jones has averaged 12.4 ppg and 6.2 rpg.
