The American University men's basketball team will look for a 2-0 start when it travels to Albany, N.Y. on Monday, November 15 to face the University at Albany at 7:00 p.m. American and Albany met for the first time last year at Bender Arena where the Great Danes escaped with a 51-50 victory.
The Eagles tipped off the 2010-11 season on Friday with a 62-52 win over St. Francis (Pa.). American trailed 36-27 at the intermission but outscored the Red Flash 35-16 in the second half to pull out the victory. The Eagles' defense keyed the comeback, as American allowed St. Francis to shoot just 22.2 (6-27) percent after the break and forced eight turnovers.
Vlad Moldoveanu led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 7-of-16 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line. The senior also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and blocked two shots. Troy Brewer tallied 12 points in his debut with five rebounds and one steal. Daniel Munoz, meanwhile, chipped in 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. American shot a combined 43.1 percent (22-51) from the field and outrebounded St. Francis 34-32
Albany will be seeking its first victory of the season after falling to Cornell 65-61 Friday. Tim Ambrose led all scorers with 20 points in the loss, connecting on 8-of-12 shots from the field. Logan Aronhalt added 13 points while Mike Black and Luke Devlin each notched 10. Albany shot 52.1 percent (25-48) from the field but committed 16 turnovers.
