No. 10 field hockey will return to action this weekend with a
pair of matches at Jacobs Field. The Eagles will first face Holy
Cross on Saturday, October 9 at 11:00 a.m. before taking on the No.
14 Duke Blue Devils on Sunday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's
match will mark the fourth annual "Phil Jacobs" event, part of the
2010-11 Phil Bender World Tour.
American (9-2, 1-0) is coming off its best weekend of the
season, with a 9-0 thrashing of Patriot League foe Lehigh and a 3-2
upset of then No. 4 Princeton. The Eagles are led by senior

Offensive Player of the Week and ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the
Week after her four-goal performance last weekend. Fingerhuth now
leads the team with eight goals and ranks fifth on American's
career goals list (42) and eighth on the all-time points list (95).

24 conference honors awarded this season, and nine different
players have been recognized. As a team, the Eagles rank eighth
nationally in both goals per game (3.64) and goals against average
(1.18). Their 2.45 scoring margin is fourth in the country.
Holy Cross (0-11, 0-1) came close to picking up its first win on
Wednesday but fell to Bryant 2-1 in overtime. They are led by

goals (2). Senior Kara Gonnerman has also scored two goals on the
year, while Lindsay MacPhail leads the team with two assists.

this season. Holy Cross has not won at Jacobs Field since November
8, 2002.
Duke (6-6, 0-3) is coming off an important non-conference win
over No. 13 Boston University. The Blue Devils have played one of
the most challenging schedules in the country, as 11 of their 12
opponents have been ranked at some point this season. They are led
by freshman Emmie Le Marchand, who has tallied four goals and an
assist. Susan Ferger, Caashia Karringten and Mary Nielsen have each
recorded two or more goals this season, while Ferger and Karringten
