Men's Basketball Looks for Second Straight Win Monday at Columbia

The American University men's basketball team will visit Columbia on Monday, January 4, in the fourth game of its current six-game roadtrip. Tipoff from Levien Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. American is 3-0 all-time against the Lions, including a 62-50 victory last season in Bender Arena. Monday's game will mark the final non-conference tilt of the season for the Eagles who will open the Patriot League portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 9, at Lehigh.

American will enter play on Monday fresh off a 76-68 victory at Brown on Saturday. The Eagles shot a season-high 52.9 percent from three against the Bears and finished the game shooting 45.0 percent from the field. American led by as many as 12 points in the second half but was forced to weather a Brown comeback effort as the Bears trailed by as few as three points with less than two minutes remaining.

Junior Nick Hendra scored a career-high 18 points in the victory, connecting on 6-of-12 shots from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. The junior also tallied six rebounds, four assists and one steal. Sophomore Stephen Lumpkins notched his second career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lumpkins also recorded career-highs with three assists and three steals. Junior Vlad Moldoveanu scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting with two rebounds, two assists and one block.

Moldoveanu has paced the Eagles in scoring since becoming eligible for competition at DePaul on December 16. The junior is averaging 17.2 ppg while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 48.5 percent from three. Lumpkins leads the Patriot League in both rebounding and blocked shots, registering 8.6 rpg and 1.9 bpg, and has added 11.1 ppg. Hendra is third on the team in scoring at 10.3 ppg with 5.7 rpg and a team-best 26 three-point field goals.
