The American University swimming and diving teams competed in a
quad meet against George Mason, Army and Old Dominion on Saturday
in Fairfax, Va. The Eagles finished 0-3 in each of the men's and
women's competitions.
On the women's side, American was led by sophomore Alexandra
Wessel and junior Dory
Isaacs, each of whom recorded a pair of top-three
results. Wessel earned a second place finish in the 200 free
(1:54.25) and finished third in the 500 free (5:06.35), while
Isaacs came in third in both the 100 breast (1:06.24) and 50 free
(24.73).
Junior Jess
Ballance earned three top-seven finishes, including
second in the 100 back (1:00.88), fifth in the 200 back (2:15.47)
and seventh in the 100 fly (1:00.81). Junior Eleanor
Clay finished in fourth place in the 200 breast
(2:27.52) and seventh in the 400 IM (4:47.19). Additionally,
sophomore Leah
Breen recorded a fourth-place result in the 50 free
(24.76).
In the women's relays, the 400 free team of Wessel, Breen, Elinor
Shetter and Isaacs finished in second-place in
3:35.69, while the combination of Wessel, Isaacs, Balance and Breen
came in third in the 200 medley relay (3:35.69).
AU's men's squad was led by senior Matt
Pelletier, who posted a victory in the 100 back in a
time of 51.55. He also finished in fifth place in the 100 fly
(51.81) and sixth in the 50 free (21.86). Freshman Ming
Ong also recorded a top-five finish in the 500 free
(4:47.83). Additionally, sophomore Sean
McNamara posted two top-seven finishes, coming in
fifth in the 200 free (1:45.23) and seventh in the 100 free
(48.65).
In the diving competition, junior Kelsey
Monarch led the Eagles with a sixth-place result in
the one meter competition (199.35) and a seventh-place finish in
the three meter event (202.30). The men's team was paced by
freshman Brian
McCallister who finished in 10th in both the one meter
(181.60) and three meter (164.65) events.
The Eagles will return to the pool on Saturday, January 30 when
they travel to Annapolis, Md., to compete in the Navy Invitational.
