WASHINGTON - American University senior Carlos Jamieson advanced to the NCAA East Regional Finals in the 1500 meter run Friday with a preliminary heat time of 3:43.95. Jamieson was one of 12 student-athletes to advance to the finals and will return to the track Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. to compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships.

Jamieson's prelim 1500 time of 3:43.95 was the ninth fastest time ran on Friday. He will need to finish in the top four Saturday to qualify for the NCAA Championships, being held this year in Fayetteville, Ark., June 10-13.

Jamieson made his first appearance at the NCAA Championships last year, participating in the 5000 meter run.

Also competing on Friday at the regional meet was freshman Octavia Rinehardt. Rinehardt placed 34th in the 5000 meter run in a time of 17:14.44. Rinehardt was the first member of AU's women's team to compete at the East Regional since All-American Keira Carlstrom, '06, took ninth in the 5000 at the NCAA Championships in 2006.
