The American University men's track team got off to a strong
start in its indoor season on Saturday at the Navy Invite.
The team was able to capture the 5,000 meter run, distance medley
relay, and mile on the day. In addition, a new school record was
set in the high jump.
Junior Colin
Eustis continued his strong campaign from the cross
country season and got the Eagles off on the right foot, winning
the 5,000 meter run easily with a time of 14:42.97, almost 22
seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The time was the
seventh fastest ever run by an Eagle.
Next up on the track for the Eagles was the DMR team of James
Cannon, Morgan
Block, Dan
King, and Conor
Sullivan, who edged teams from Georgetown and Navy to
give the team its second win of the day in a time of
10:12.00. Sullivan took the baton in second place and ran a
patient anchor leg, making a strong push with about 150 meters to
go to take the lead and earn the victory.
Not to be outdone, sophomore Chris
Tonn easily took the mile run in a time of 4:15.80,
winning by almost five seconds. Tonn took off at the 800 to
go mark and never looked back as he cruised to the team's third win
on the day.
The Eagles also had a strong performance from sophomore Zach
Wright, who finished third overall in the high jump,
matching the school record in the event by clearing the bar at 1.99
meters (6'6.25").
American will be back in action after returning to campus from
winter break on January 8th at the Delaware
Invitational.
