Volleyball Drops Season Finale at Albany, 3-0

The American University volleyball team lost at Albany on Saturday, 3-0, in the team's season finale despite a double-double effort from Angelina Waterman. The Great Danes earned the victory by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-11.

American (18-13) took a 3-1 lead off a Magdalena Tekiel service ace to begin the first set but Albany (22-10) quickly bounced back to tie the score at four. With the score still tied at 12, the Great Danes rattled off four straight points to take a 16-12 advantage. Albany extended its lead to 23-14 using a second 4-0 spurt before scoring set point, 25-18.

The Eagles took an early 2-0 lead in the second set following a Cassandra Ricketts kill and solo block. Albany, however, was able to even the frame at three before opening a 9-6 lead. A 3-0 run pushed the Great Danes lead to 15-9 as Albany opened a nine-point advantage, 21-12, before taking the set by the same margin, 25-16.

American and Albany traded points to begin the third set and were tied at eight after 16 points. Albany, however, would score the match's next eight points to open a 16-8 lead. The Great Danes advantage reached 12 points, 21-9, after a 5-0 jaunt en route to match point, 25-11.

Waterman led the Eagles both offensively and defensively as she recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs. Tekiel and Ricketts each added seven kills. Krysta Cicala dished out 30 assists while Cynammon Burns notched 11 digs.
