Notes
The American University men's basketball team will open
its 2009-10 season on Friday, November 13, against St. Francis in
Loretto, Pa. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. American owns an 8-3
record in its all-time series with St. Francis and has won each of
the last five meetings between the teams. Fans unnable to attend

The Eagles will take on a different look this season after the
loss of seven student-athletes this spring to graduation. Sophomore
forward Stephen
Lumpkins and junior guard Nick
Hendra will immediately step into lead roles
offensively, and will be complimented by a talented group of
youngsters. Lumpkins had a solid freshman campaign in 2008-09,
averaging 3.4 ppoints and 2.6 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game.
This season, Lumpkins will be the featured element in
American's offense. Hendra, meanwhile, is the team's
leading returning scorer (6.3 ppg) and rebounder (4.4 rpg) and will
be looked at to provide steady offensive production throughout the
season. The Eagles will get a boost midway through the year when
junior Vlad
Moldoveanu becomes eligible on December 16 at DePaul
after transferring from George Mason midway through last season.
The 6'9” forward possesses the ability to shoot from
the outside and also has the size and strength to be effective in
the post.
Joining Hendra in the backcourt will be senior Matthew
Wilson, junior Steve
Luptak and sophomores Joe
Hill and Simon
McCormack. Sophomore forward Riley
Grafft will join Lumpkins and Moldoveanu in the
frontcourt. American has also added seven freshman to this
season's squad who will each compete for playing time
immediately.
