Swimming Finishes Fifth in Potomac Relay Invitational

Both the American University men's and women's swimming teams finished in fifth place in the Potomac Relay Invitational, which took place on Friday afternoon at American's Reeves Aquatic Center. This was the first competition of the season for the Eagles.

American's best finishes of the day came with second-place results in both the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay on the men's side. In the 200 free relay, the squad finished with a time of 1:28.18, finishing less than two seconds behind George Mason. Senior Matt Pelletier paced the Eagles with a 50-yard split of 21.41, while freshman Michael Greenberg anchored the team with a split of 21.95. Sophomore Sean McNamara and senior Eric Sveum swam the first two legs for AU.

Additionally, the 400 medley relay team of freshman Ming Ong, Pelletier, Sveum and Greenberg also finished in second place, coming up less than three seconds short of event-winner George Mason. Pelletier again led the Eagles with a 100-yard split of 53.75.

On the women's side, the 300 breast relay team finished in third place with a time of 3:25.63. Junior Dory Isaacs swam the first leg with a 1:05.72 split. Junior Eleanor Clay and sophomore Anna Gooding were also part of the squad.

Towson took home the team title on the women's side, followed by Georgetown and George Mason in the top three. In the men's competition, George Mason, Georgetown and George Washington took home top team honors.

The Eagles will be back in the pool in two weekends for a two-day competition versus Catholic and George Washington. Session one will begin on Friday, October 16 at 6 p.m. at Catholic. On Saturday, October 17, the Eagles will host session two at 10 a.m., and session three will follow that same day at 3 p.m. at George Washington.
