WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's indoor track teams completed day two of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York City. Cathleen Ford and Kate Lilley both improved their standing on AU's all-time top-10 list in the mile while Steve Hallinan took the mile crown on the men's side.

Ford and Lilley, AU's only two females to compete at the invitational, each bested their previous personal bests in the mile run. Ford topped her previous best time by nearly 10 seconds, running the course in 5:01.95 to place ninth. Lilley bested her previous time by nearly four seconds with a 5:04.90 and placed 12th.

Both times improved the Eagle harriers standing on AU's top-10 list. Ford had previously ranked sixth on the list right behind Lilley who was fifth. Ford leapfrogged Lilley on Saturday though and now ranks fourth while the latter slips to sixth.

Hallinan won the men's mile competition, just edging out teammate Brian McCabe who took second. Hallinan won with a time of 4:11.42 while McCabe stopped the clock at 4:11.45. Conor Sullivan took 18th in the event, clocking in at 4:17.79.

Brendan Fennell ran in the 3000 meter run and was the final Eagle to take the track. Fennell placed 23rd in the race with a time of 8:27.82.

Three members of the men's team took the track yesterday in day one of the competition. Dan King moved to third place on AU's top-10 list by running a 1:06.93 in the 500 meter dash while Nick Ryan and Colin Eustis placed 23rd and 35th, respectively, in the 3000 meter run.

The AU men's and women's indoor track teams will now make their final preparations for the Patriot League Indoor Championships being held this year in Lewisburg, Pa., from Feb. 22-24. Five Eagles earned a total of seven All-Patriot League First Team honors at last year's championships including current Eagles Fennell, Hallinan and McCabe.
