DAVIDSON, N.C. -
American's Leslie Fischer scored with 54 seconds left in overtime to give American an 11-10 victory over Davidson Saturday at Richardson Stadium.
American came back from a 10-8 disadvantage with 10:46 left in regulation. Caitlin Bell scored on a free position shot with just over five minutes remaining to make the score 10-9, then freshman Allegra Formento tallied an unassisted goal with 4:42 left to send the game to extra sessions.
After neither team scored in the first three-minute overtime session, Fischer broke through with her first goal of the season on an unassisted tally.
"I'm happy with the win," said Head Coach Katie Woods. "But we still need to put together a complete game."
In a nearly even game, both teams finished with 26 shots. The Eagles, however, got the shots when they counted, outshooting the Wildcats 3-1 in the second extra session.
Jackie Lane lead the Eagles (1-2) with three goals, while Bell and Formento had two a piece. Fischer, Lauren Aksionoff and Brittany Finnegan had one goal each.
Jen Crawford led the Wildcats (1-2) with four goals, while Haley Cook and Emily Palmer each had two goals.
American returns to action when it hosts Old Dominion on Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. Admission to the game is free. Fans who can't make it to the game can listen to it live on Eagles All*Access. Click here to listen or to subscribe.
