Lacrosse's Season Ends at Navy in 18-5 Loss

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The American University lacrosse team fell to the #7 Navy Midshipmen on Wednesday night 18-5, eliminating AU from Patriot League postseason contention. The Eagles end the season with a 4-12 record, and a 3-6 showing in conference play. 

Notable
  • Annabelle Jackson scored two goals for AU, while Reagan Murdoch, Kellie Linehan, Caroline McBride each netted one. Murdoch, Linehan, and Anastasia Byrnes picked up assists.
  • Murdoch finishes her prolific career as one of AU's top five all-time goal scorers, sitting at fourth in program history with 128 goals. With 30 career assists, she ends with 158 points. 
  • Linehan closes her career with 143 points on 105 goals and 38 assists, along with 80 draw controls. 
  • Sammie Buonaccorsi caused two turnovers to reach 50 on the year. 
  • Izzy Masengarb collected two ground balls to end her sophomore season with 25 on the year, the second-most on the team behind Buonaccorsi's 26.
  • Masengarb also caused a turnover and finishes an impressive second-year campaign with 33, the fourth-most in American's single-season history. 
  • Nickie Prendergast won three draw controls in her final game. 
How it Happened
  • The Eagles hung with the nation's seventh-ranked team in the first half, trailing just 6-3 at halftime. 
  • Annabelle Jackson gave AU the lead on the team's first possession, ripping a shot to the top of the cage just over a minute in. 
  • The Eagles kept Navy off the board for over 10 minutes until Alyssa Chung struck for the Mids at the 2:58 mark. 
  • Trailing 4-1 after a run by Navy, Linehan found Murdoch in front of goal for an easy finish.
  • Down 6-2 with 37 seconds left in the half, McBride rocketed a free position shot past Felicia Giglio to put the Eagles down three at the half. 
  • The home side controlled the second half, outscoring AU 12-2 and shutting out the Eagles in the third quarter.
  • In the fourth, Jackson provided her second goal, and Murdoch returned the earlier favor to Linehan, finding her for a tally with 20 seconds left.
