AU Indoor Track Records Eight Top-10 Times at Patriot Games

WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's indoor track teams competed in the Patriot Games Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse on the campus of George Mason University and placed seventh and 11th, respectively. A combined eight new times were added to AU's all-time top-10.

Navy won the women's competition with 142.7 total points while GMU won the men's competition with 128 points. AU's women's team finished in 11th place with 15 points and the men's team finished seventh with 41 points.

The women's team posted five entries into AU's all-time list led by senior Cathleen Ford's time of 3:01.96 in the 1000 meter run, ranking her fourth. Classmate Kate Lilley was AU's lone individual winner, posting a mile time of 5:08.71 which was the fifth fastest time in program history.

Sophomore Janis Irish placed seventh on AU's all-time list in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.01. Freshman Mary Jane Egan and Gena Turner also made AU's top-10, ranking eighth in the 1000 meter run and ninth in the 200 meter dash, respectively.

Freshman Morgan Block led the men's team with two AU top-10 times. Block ran the 200 meter dash in a time of 24.05, good enough for sixth all-time, and the 400 meter dash in 52.42, placing him ninth.

Sophomore Dan King ran the fifth-fastest time in program history in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.33.

The men's and women's indoor track teams will be in action again next Friday, Feb. 1, at the Millrose Games in New York City where the men's team will look for its fourth straight 4 x 800 relay championship.
