The American University men's indoor track team competed at the Navy Invitational Saturday afternoon where it placed fourth with a team total of 45 points. Brian McCabe was American's lone individual winner, capturing first place in the 1000 meter run.
Navy won the invitational with 214 total points while VCU placed second with 162 points and Penn third with 127 points. Saturday's meet was just the second indoor competition of the year for the men's team.
McCabe edged out Bryan Scotland from Penn in the 1000 meter run by just more than one second, finishing with a time of 2:29.23. Carlos Jamieson took third in the event on McCabe and Scotland's heels, stopping the clock at 2:30.84.
Brendan Fennell placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:20.72. AU's other top finishers included Dan King's sixth place showing in the 500 meter dash (1:07.73), Conor Sullivan's sixth-place finish in the 3000 meter run (8:49.90), Kyle Gaffney's seventh-place finish in the mile (4:23.78), Doug Swiatocha's seventh-place finish in the 800 meter run (2:00.00) and Drew Veysey's seventh-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles (8.54).
The AU indoor track team will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Maryland Invitational.
