Carr's Career-High 26 points Not Enough in 63-56 Loss at Dayton

Dec. 19, 2007

DAYTON, Ohio - Junior guard Garrison Carr netted a career-high 26 points, including a career-high seven three-pointers, but the American University men's basketball team couldn't hold on to a halftime lead in a 63-56 loss at Dayton Wednesday at UD Arena.

American held a 23-22 lead at halftime, the 10th time in 11 games the Eagles have led at the half. The Eagles opened the second period with a three-pointer by Carr to open up a four-point advantage, but the Flyers scored the next four buckets for an 8-0 run, taking a four-point lead. Dayton never trailed again.

Dayton started pulling away in the latter half of the second stanza, going ahead by 12 with 5:24 remaining. However, Carr caught fire, hitting three-pointers on four straight possessions on a 12-5 AU run to trim the deficit to five points with 3:34 left, but UD's Brian Roberts hit a three-pointer with 3:15 remaining and AU got no closer than six the rest of the way.

Dayton shot 50 percent in the second half to erase its halftime deficit. The Flyers, who have won eight straight games, are now 9-1 overall. UD was led in scoring by Roberts, who had 12 points.

AU Head Coach Jeff Jones gave credit to Dayton. "I see Dayton as a team like [2007 NCAA Tournament participant] Xavier," Jones said. "When you've got great guard play, you're well-coached and you're tough on the boards, you certainly have a chance to be tough."

American falls to 6-5 overall. Carr's seven treys tied for the fourth-most in a single game in AU history with, among others, 2007 graduate Andre Ingram.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Dec. 22, when they play at Maryland at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet. Check local listings for channel. The game will also be available on Eagles All*Access as a live audio feed. Click here to listen or to subscribe.
