American Falls in Double OT to Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Heidi Herschberger (Davis, Calif./Davis) scored the first goal of her varsity career, but it was not enough as the Eagles fell in double overtime by the final score of 2-1. Herschberger tied the game up at one apiece at the 59:17 mark after sophomore Shannon Goans (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) and Maureen Daniels (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) combined on the assist. After a scoreless first half, both teams scored once in the second period. After the first OT went by, the Spiders scored the gamewinner off of a penalty shot at 88:57. The winner was scored by Lydia Decembrino. Senior goalie Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) picked up two saves in the match, while Richmond goalie Michelle Swartz stopped six shots. American is now 1-1-0 and will next play host to Rider on Sunday, September 7 at 2:00 p.m. Game Summary
