COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The AU Eagles put up a
great fight, and played an intense game of hockey as they fell to
the number three ranked Maryland Terps, 2-0. The Eagle defense was
lead by senior goalkeeper Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown),
who managed 12 saves, and sophomore Maureen Daniel (Clifton Park,
N.Y./Shenendehowa) who had three beautiful defensive saves. As the
game began, freshman Kaitlin DeTroia (North Caldwell, N.J./West
Essex Regional) was able to bring the ball right outside the top of
the Terps circle and slam the ball into the cage off a defender but
unfortunately it did not count because the shot was not initiated
inside the circle. The Eagles were able continue on and hold the
Terps through the half, only allowing two goals, both from penalty
corners. The only goals of the game were put in the cage by Terps
forward Paula Infante, the older sister of freshman Camila Infante
(Santiago Chile/Santiago College). As the rain began to fall in the
second half of the game, the Eagles were able to go on the offense
and start off strong. In the first 15 minutes of the half, Maryland
was unable to get a shot off, and the Eagles took six shots, two
corners, and one penalty stroke. Maryland was able to again put
pressure on the Eagles, taking three corners in a row, but Daniel
was able to keep the ball out as she made two defensive saves in a
row. Miller played a great second half of hockey, making five saves
in the second half. The Eagles are now 13-3 overall, and 5-0 in the
Patriot League. They will next face the Bucknell on Saturday, Nov.
