Worcester, Mass. - The AU field hockey team was
able to move into first place in the Patriot League after defeating
the Holy Cross Crusaders 3-0. The Eagles are currently ranked 19 on
the STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. The Eagles were able to put
the ball in the back of the cage less than five minutes into the
game when sophomore Maureen Daniel (Clifton, Park,
N.Y./Shenendehowa) put the ball past the Crusader goalie off a
penalty shot. This is Daniels eighth goal of the season. Although
the rest of the first half was evenly matched, the Eagles were able
to out shoot Holy Cross 6-3. As the second half started, Holy Cross
was able to take three shots in the first five minutes, but
goalkeeper Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) and the Eagle
defense was able to keep them out of the cage and rally back. With
7:48 left in the game, Javiera Villagra (Santiago, Chile/Santiago
College) was able to score off a rebound from the Crusader
goalkeeper. The third and final goal came from freshman Camila
Infante (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) as she dribbled down the
right sideline, past three defenders to put the ball in the cage
from just inside the circle. The Eagles will try and continue their
