WASHINGTON - Behind a season-high 10 saves from freshman goalkeeper Riley Molbury and a determined defensive effort, American University women's soccer battled Elon to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at Reeves Field.
With 39 saves and 6.50 saves per game, Molbury now leads all Patriot League goalkeepers in both categories. The Eagles were the first team to keep the Phoenix scoreless this season after Elon had posted 21 goals in its first six matches.
How it Happened
- Some early pressure by the Eagles forced Elon goalkeeper Naomi Person to make her only save of the first half less than two minutes in.
- Molbury's first save came in the 12th minute, and she posted three more by halftime.
- The pressure by Elon built in the latter stretch of the opening half, but the Eagles' defense held strong.
- The first 11 shots of the second half all belonged to Elon, including four on goal, but Molbury stopped every one.
- Molbury stopped another pair of chances Isa Murdock near the 80th minute.
- Elon's second-half goalkeeper Anica Carpenter saw her first action in the 84th minute, stopping a shot by AU's Natalia Croce.
- In the final five minutes, Elon earned a pair of corner kick opportunities. The Eagles also posted two corners in the second half, but no strong chances came from any corners for either team.
